#21. Re: No Gencon Savage Encounters Pics? by greyhaze, responding to sienarGo to post

I just can't imagine a company is keen on having people more interested in what they could be buying in three months as opposed to what they should be buying in one day. I'd imagine I'd try to set my marketing up for people to be excited about tomorrow.

I can. We're already excited about LE, but we know all we're gonna know about it - now we're hungry for more.

GenCon being the main event for the year, I guess we expect "lots" of hype, how much can you hype something that is literally coming out in a few sleeps? We're already as hyped as we're gonna get for that (unless it now comes with folded money).

There's always PAX, right?

Don't crush my dreams, OK?

Haha. Isn't going through those 4 cases part of work?

Other deadlines call.

Just did the collation. Some of these figures may be the best miniatures from the line. What is it with the fall sets turning out better than the rest?

One universal reaction to an awesome figure: That's an uncommon?!? Wow. (The name starts with A, just after the two dragons in the set.)

Who said there weren't any pocket specials? Did anybody ask the Guild leaders if they had anything in their pockets?

If I was at the con, I would have asked the Guild Leaders for some sneak stat previews. I wouldn't expect Guild Leaders to carry around unreleased minis in their pockets, and, furthermore, even if they did carry them around, I wouldn't expect those minis to be shown because that would likely be a NDA breach.

We had permission to talk about 4 figures. No one bothered to ask me about them... *shrug*

Ooo I am glad that one has a great sculpt. I enjoy the stats on it too, so that is good.

So what were they?

I'll agree with Sam, seems odd to intuitively know to ask people that aren't wotc employees about wotc unreleased products.

I had been told repeatedly that you guys are under NDA's so why make a jerk of myself by asking questions I know you cannot answer?
I didn't want to impose on friendships.

I understand why no one asked out of the blue, but it was kind of funny that no one pressed for any information on the three figures we spoiled in our seminar. Ah well, you'll find out in November

The four from the seminar.

I only heard about 3; bullywug (unless this equals 2), grazzt and the greenvise. Did we miss one?

There weren't even any pics taken during the seminar which is odd.

Mudlord and Guard. We mentioned multiples. I know someone was taking pictures during it, but I haven't seen them posted yet.

Mud Lord has a staff, the other has a club. I wanted to make sure they were different from the Bullywug Thug.

In my world, the bullywugs are degenerate slaads. Make of that what you will. ;)

I consider Legendary Evils a two case set. This one may be the first four case set in a long time. (Not that you need four cases to collect a whole set, but that you want 1-2 of every rare, 3 or 4 of most of the uncommons and 8 of some of the commons.) There are quite a few figures that have never been done before, like the Greenvise and Graz'zt. Now that I've seen production figures, I'm really happy with how the set shaped up.

I don't think there are are as many "wow!" figures in Savage Encounters as there are in Legendary Evils -- for example, it's hard to top that Balor with anything other than a huge -- but I think it's more consistent and the average figure in SE is better than the average figure in LE.

I'm not going to actively do previews right away, as LE is out as of today, I think. (I'm at home and don't have access to any sort of schedule.) Just stealth previews like this post.

Ah, gotcha. Yeh, it was pretty quiet on the homefront, hopefully somebody posts the seminar pics for us. Thanks.

In other news, I own a Balor and it OWNS.

Thanks for the “preview” Peter. I love bullywugs. I used them extensively in one encounter recently. The thugs are so easy to repaint with different color skins and warts….great, great mini. You’ll be challenged to come up with one that good again, imo.

Thanks Pete, and can I take a moment to personally thank you for the Remorhaz in LE...possibly my favorite fig right now, and a long awaited one that looks great. I can't wait to eat some PC's when they reach higher levels and travel North :)

I will say about the bullywugs what I would have said there had someone asked me. The guard is a nice fodder piece. The mudlord design wise is one of my favorite figures ever. I am not sure if he will be played heavily in the competitive scene, but there is potential in certain metas. He is a fun piece though for sure.
