#1. DDXP News by JohnnyQuest

Howdy peeps, checking in after my first night at DDXP. I'll update this thread as I can, and I'll send updates to Ktatroe as I can. Woo hoo!

Okay, so Aesoph and Maijstral braved rain, sleet, snow, and gloom of night in order to pick me up and head for Fort Wayne. En route, we grabbed ourselves a Sienar, and then it was a party! We got to Fort Wayne by a little after 7 PM EST.

Immediately, we ran into Tried, Markdragon, and a fellow miniatures enthusiast from Dallas, TX. They invited us out to the local Irish pub for comestibles. We accepted, but first made a stop in the convention hall to get our badges and such.

After getting our badges, we ran into one Wavester, who gave us some juicy information. Among the prizes one can earn at the Delve will be two repaint minis that were produced for league kits and won't be available anywhere else. Tournament support will include a number of master paint figures, including the original black-robed Raistlin Majere and master paints of many of the other repaints (Greater Barghest, Owl Bear Rager, etc.), and printed sets of cards for the updated sets (not including WotDQ, I think).

WotC will be holding its new product seminar tonight at 6 PM EST. Rumored to be present is the entire Player's Handbook Heroes: Series 1 set and each of the large, visible figures from Monster Manual: Dangerous Delves. We should also get a look at the power cards sets, for those of you who swing that way

The Limited Championship trophy is a gorgeous repainted Githyanki Dragon Knight. Pics to follow.

Okay, what else? The fish and chips were delicious, and the waitress was cute as heck. The hotel and convention center are nice and comfy. Restaurants abound.

Oh, and I've already met several minis players that were previously unknown to me. Conversation with them confirmed for me the theory that we actually have no idea how many people play skirmish, and there are a lot of active pockets of people. Sienar commented, and I agree, that the Guild will be successful if we can connect with those people who play casually in store and at home.

Okay, that's about it. I'll check in when I can. Stay tuned!

Hope you guys have fun. I had lunch with Nick & Crystal at the Hard Rock yesterday, downtown Chicago. I'd intended to go to XP, but went on honeymoon in southern CA and Vegas instead and just got back. Currently tired and strapped for cash. Looking forward to your updates.

Thanks for the update, JQ. Remember: pix of new minis, pix of new minis. Make is so.

Damn them, if only they hadn't moved it from DC. :)

Have fun and just remember, the only reason you're winning is because I wasn't there! haha

Give us pics!

Just curious, I am sure it has probably been discussed and mentioned. Will XP be in Fort Wayne next year if it is successful there this year? And will it likely be around the same time as this year.

I think that it will probably be in Fort Wayne in the future. However, they will move it a month or two later in the year. At least that is the impression I've had from reading about the XP announcement back in October (November?).

The PLAN is to have XP around Aprilish in Ft Wayne next year.

Of course, plans change.

Aprilish sounds good to me. End of January was just to close to all of the holidays. I understand all the problems with short time to get space booked and all that.
So what is the vendor scene like out there? That was one thing I was not to happy with in DC. Is anyone selling DDXP 2009 shirts?

Just got a call from D&D Experience filing the first “bug” in the new rulebook. It exists in the current CRG, too. And in the Confusing Conditions Victory Points article. And in the original rulebook.

Yeah, it’s pretty edge-case-y.

There will have to be a pretty compelling approach to sealed play to draw me to next year's XP...

Are there plans on how the guild will approach this? If so, could someone paste/link for me?

I don’t want to steal any thunder from the presentation tomorrow, but let me just say this: The Guild is very committed to Limited as a format.

Heh. No, just that we’re going to find a way to make Limited and release tournaments work as nearly to how they work now as possible.

This will sound like a much better idea if they fill the water coolers with vodka. Can you get on that, Kevin?

So many words....all of them fail me.

I have never known so little about so much of what I was looking at. I mean, it's the new monsters but....What is that? Why is that...um.... That other one's bent like crazy right because...um....I'm looking at.

I'm going to just say I'll need to see them in hand before making a judgement.
